A visit to Visayas State University in Baybay, Leyte, Philippines

On December 6, 2023, Dr. Terese Venus and Ms. Nymphmary Daphne Santiago started the research collaboration between the University of Passau and the Visayas State University (VSU) with a courtesy call to the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) President, Dr. Daniel Tan, and the secretary, Dr. Allen Lambert.

VSU is a leading global institution in agriculture and related fields located on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. The university focuses on research and development and aims to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding, as well as national goals such as innovation, economic development, social development, and environmental sustainability.

The brief meeting discussed the bioeconomy and the ReValueD project, which will be conducted in collaboration with VSU - College of Management and Economics, led by Dr Moises Neil V. Seriño. Under the current agreement, the two universities will work until 2026. This partnership will focus on joint research activities, publications, and exchange of knowledge through guest lectures, conferences, research seminars, and a summer school in bioeconomy.

The team from the Bioeconomy Economics Research Group was also welcomed by the research assistants of the CME – Visayas Socioeconomic Research and Analytics Center (ViSERDAC).
